My father once told me I was named after Geoffrey II, Duke of Brittany. If you've ever seen Robin Hood then you are familiar with Geoffrey's brothers King Richard the Lion Hearted and Prince John. (If you are more of a history buff than a folktale fan then you will remember King John from Magna Carta fame.) Geoffrey was the brother in between Richard and John that would've become king if he hadn't died at the age of 28. He twice tried to kill his father in bloody revolts and may have been the gay lover of Philip Augustus the king of France. My mother assures me my dad is crazy.
I was born on September 4th 1980. Perhaps the two most important historical events to happen on this day (other than my own nascence) would have to be:
476 - Romulus Augustus is deposed as the last emperor of the Roman Empire. 1870 - Emperor Napolean III of France is deposed.
All in all, September 4th is not a good day to be an emperor.
I frequently comment that "the only good thing that came out of the 80s is me." I find this statement much more amusing when surrounded by my peers.
My favourite number is 371. There are three reasons why. The first is that it's an Armstrong number which means that the sum up the digits raised to the power of the length of the number, you get the number. (3^3 + 7^3 + 1^3 = 371.) Secondly, its hexadecimal representation is the reverse of its decimal representation which as a computer scientist is megacool. Lastly, if you encode the alphabet with A starting as 1, then 371 would be CGA which just so happens to be my initials.
